Message from the President...
Updated: 06/12/10
I have noticed spring slipping away and summer marching toward us. Hopefully the snowmelt in the north and east hasn’t caused too much difficulty for our breeders. Texas was blessed with a cooler and wetter winter than normal. We had five different snowfalls, here at our ranch, which is unheard of for us!
Because of the weather, I am reminded of the versatility of our great breed and of the people who raise them. We have chosen a breed that can flourish from the Mexican border, California to Maine, up to the Canadian border and beyond. Not only can we raise a lamb crop, but marketable wool as well. Where the meat and hair breeds bring in only one check, we are provided with two.
Hopefully everyone is through lambing and shearing. Remember that by keeping those fleeces clean, it should bring a better price from your warehouse. Enjoy being an American Rambouillet sheep breeder for we are a rare bunch.
On to the business – The National Show is just weeks away! Burk and Bernie and the Colorado region have been busy getting things ready. You can help them by getting your registrations in as well as your entries. When they all come at once it “clogs up the pipes” a bit. Don’t forget to bring a fleece for the show; it is important that we support all aspects of our National Show. The Dutch oven/ potluck dinner is back on the agenda again this year. There are some great recipes on the Internet if you are looking for something new to cook.
Speaking of the Internet, our website has experienced a face-lift. New photos and links are up. We also have a new Facebook page. You can find Breeders list, entries for the Nationals and Futurity rules and guidelines with point sheets. All of this would not be possible with out Brady Medford’s talent and patience. Check it out; we may have some information that could help you out.
This is a great opportunity to look for that “special” sheep that will positively influence your flock as well as meet and visit with like-minded breeders. Plan to come and enjoy your “Rambouillet” family! Hope to see you there.
Until next time….
Jane
